The man in the iron mask – an unusual Leo-Film

One thing that fascinates me about MITIM is that this film is very unique in Leonardo DiCaprio’s film career. Actually it is no typical Leo-film. This film just wants to entertain. Obviously nobody ever wanted to make a masterpiece. It’s just fun – a film for the audience. That’s unusual for a Leo-film, because normally his films are more complicated. They are not typical entertainment movies. In my opinion beside MITIM there are only two other movies in his career of which it was the first point too entertain the audience. These films were R+J and of course “Titanic”. But both of these movies are still somehow ambitious. MITIM is not. It’s just a simple movie to entertain people. I don’t think that’s bad. On the contrary, I love it! I don’t always want complicate movies which were more made for critics and awards than for the audience. I want to be entertained, and that’s what MITIM does. If I look at Leo’s film career, I think that there’s no movie which one could compare with MITIM. As for his style it is really unique. All his other movies you can maybe assign to a certain type of Leo-Films, but not MITIM. That’s why I say that it is an unusual Leo-film. In retrospect I’m even amazed that he had accepted this role, because it is by no way a typical choice for him (BTW, one shouldn’t forget that Leo first had rejected the role). But I’m very grateful. With this film he has really made me happy. MITIM also seems to be a very relaxed movie to me. Maybe because there wasn't the ambition to create a masterpiece. So everything appears very relaxed and refreshing. And I want more films like this one! Who cares about critics and awards? I want to be entertained!
